Kerala Agricultural University (KAU), established in 1972, is the premier institution of the Kerala State in providing human capital and technology required for the sustainable development of agriculture encompassing crop production (agriculture and horticulture), agricultural engineering, animal husbandry, fisheries, forestry, co-operation, and home science by integrating education, research and extension.       

  The University fulfils its commitment through a network of educational institutions, research stations, centres of advanced studies and extension centres spread across the length and breadth of the state.         

The University offers seven graduate programmes , 43  post-graduate programmes and 23 doctoral programmes through its 10 constituent colleges. 

KAU is the nodal and primary institution in the state to undertake basic and applied research in agriculture and allied sectors. The research results obtained out of various experiments implemented in KAU have helped the farming community a lot in formulating production protocols in field crops, horticulture crops, animals and fishes popular in the farming sector.

  The University diffuses technology developed by the scientists after validating the results under field conditions and assessing their potential for enhancing income and employment. KAU has won the Performance Award of ICAR for the third time in a row. The University has won the Award in 2007-08 and 2008-09.
